| Also
referred to as the Castle Beat, the West Hand extends from Blair
Castle grounds in a northerly direction to cover over 18,000 acres
of open woodland, low and high ground heather moor. Guests stay
at Old
Blair Lodge which sleeps up to 12 and is conveniently located
within walking distance of Blair Atholl village. The West Hand is
managed by a Headkeeper with over 45 years of experience on Atholl
and also benefits from varied ground some of which requires less
strenuous walking.
Mixed sporting weeks start at the end of August and continue until
the end of the stags in October. In addition, as Old Blair is centrally
positioned to access all our beats, it is generally chosen for hind
stalking parties during November and December. Given the significant
extent of our hind cull very little of the stalking is let to guests
and that which we do provide is restricted to parties who also take
the lodge for accommodation.
During
the mixed grouse and stag weeks of the season, the West Hand can
accommodate two stalking parties each day although salmon fishing
for 3 rods on the Tilt is also provided with the lodge for 3 days
of the week.
Non sporting members of the party have easy access from Old Blair
to the Castle, pony trekking or other venues such as Pitlochry or
the House of Bruar making the West Hand a particularly suitable
beat for families.
